What is office plant hire?

Office plant hire or office plant rental is a fully managed service where a provider like Deedman supplies, installs and maintains office plants in a company’s workspace for an ongoing fee. Many office plant rental companies – including Deedman – offer both living plant and artificial plant installation and maintenance services, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your budget, maintenance preferences and overall vision for the space.

Unlike purchasing office plants yourself from a generic retailer, using an office plant hire service enables you to enlist the creative and practical help of professionals in biophilic design, plant installation and plant maintenance on an ongoing basis. No initial investment or upkeep is required on your end, and you’ll also benefit from free replacements if a plant dies, outgrows its spot or falls out of peak condition as part of your all-inclusive office plant maintenance service.

How the service works

1

Step 1: Free design consultation and site survey

Start by booking your free design consultation. We’ll survey your site and talk you through the living and replica plant options best suited to your space and its conditions, so your scheme is exactly tailored to your needs and preferences.

2

Step 2: Delivery and installation

We take care of delivery and installation from start to finish. Wherever possible, we prepare, wrap and bring your displays to site fully made up, so they can be placed quickly and with minimal fuss. If displays need to be built on site, we’ll arrange a time that suits you so there’s no disruption to your business.

3

Step 3: Regular plant maintenance

Our trained, uniformed maintenance team visits your site regularly to keep both living and replica displays healthy and looking their best, and a supervisor reports on every site to make sure our standards are met. If a plant dies naturally, we’ll automatically replace it with one of equivalent value, and if it outgrows its position, we’ll replace that too.

The benefits of office plants

Adding plants for the office isn’t just an aesthetic choice – although their visual appeal is still a key benefit! Here are just some of the many advantages of installing office plants:

1. Improved wellbeing

Numerous scientific studies have shown that office plants improve people’s mental and physical wellbeing at work. For example, a 2015 Human Spaces report found that employees in spaces with natural elements reported a 15% increase in overall wellbeing. Similarly, research conducted at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in 2010 found that, after plants were added to office environments, “tension and anxiety were reduced by 37%, depression by 58%, anger by 44%, and fatigue by 38%”.

2. Higher productivity

Not only can greenery improve feelings of wellbeing, but it has also been shown to improve attributes such as concentration and focus. A combined study by Cardiff University and the University of Exeter found that having a “green office” could increase productivity by 15%.

3. Cleaner air

Live plants clean and purify the air by filtering airborne pollutants, toxins, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), dust, bacteria and other irritants, therefore reducing symptoms such as headaches, dry eyes and sore throats.

Plus, by improving air quality and employees’ physical and mental health, indoor office plants can reduce sick days. A study by Wageningen University and Fytagoras found that office workers in rooms with plants call in sick 20% less often compared to workers in offices without plants, averaging about 1.6 fewer sick days per employee per year.

4. Improved brand image

Having plants in your office – whether live or artificial – sends an important message about your company’s environmental ethos, consideration of employee wellbeing and aesthetic presentation. In client-facing spaces in particular, like receptions and entrances, plants for the office can:

  • Make an eye-catching visual statement
  • Bring a sense of calm into a busy space
  • Soften industrial, minimalist or even sterile office interiors
  • Highlight a consideration of and commitment to environmental goals
  • Add much-needed vibrancy to contrast with neutral office colour palettes

All of the above can help to make a positive first impression and improve brand image.

5. Better space division

Indoor office plants can break up a space in a stylistic sense by adding visual and textural interest, but they can also break up a space in a real physical sense through biophilic design methods like barrier planting. This allows you to divide an open-plan office into different zones without relying on building solid walls, which can make the workspace feel cramped, uncollaborative and uninviting compared to the calming and welcoming effects of living and artificial plant walls.

Living plants vs artificial plants

Living office plant display

Living office plants

If air purification benefits and a natural look are the most important criteria to you, then living plants are the clear winner for your office. The usual trade-off is that live office plants require more maintenance, including regular watering, pruning and occasional replacement, but when you choose an office plant hire service with Deedman, all of this is handled for you.

Artificial office plant display

Artificial office plants

Artificial or replica plants are made from materials like high-quality silk, plastic and resin to very closely mimic the appearance of natural plants. Although they don’t purify the air, artificial plants provide many of the same aesthetic and wellbeing benefits as live plants, in addition to being much longer-lasting and easier to maintain. If your office doesn’t have suitable lighting and temperature conditions for live plants, or regular live plant maintenance would be too disruptive for you, then you may prefer artificial options.

Why choose Deedman for office plant rental?

Our aim is simple: to supply outstanding office plant displays, using excellent-quality plants in traditional, contemporary and unique plant containers, and to keep them in top condition for the full term of your contract.

Only the best quality office plants

We only supply top-quality plants, because healthy, well-grown specimens settle into your office and keep looking their best. Lower-quality plants would need replacing all the time, but better-quality plants mean less disruption for you and a display that makes the right impression from day one.

A large range of plants and planters

Choose from a wide range of living plants and replica plants, set in plant containers in a variety of shapes, sizes, materials, finishes and colours. Whether you need reception and entrance planters, desktop planters, atrium planting, barrier planting or a living or replica plant wall, our design team will help you choose what best suits your space and corporate image.

Free plant replacement policy

Your single rental cost covers replacement plants. If a living plant dies through no fault of the maintenance, we’ll automatically replace it with a specimen of equivalent value, at no extra charge.

Hassle-free installation and maintenance

Wherever possible, we prepare, wrap and deliver your displays fully made up, so they can be installed quickly and with minimal fuss. If displays need to be built on site, we’ll arrange a time that suits you to avoid disrupting your business. After that, our maintenance team takes care of everything.

Highly trained maintenance team

Every member of our maintenance team completes our rigorous in-house training, and we refresh their skills regularly. You’ll recognise our friendly, uniformed staff on every visit, and a supervisor regularly reports on each site to make sure our standards are met.

Biological pest control

We’ve used biological pest control for over 20 years, which means no harsh chemicals in your workplace, and every maintenance technician is trained in it. It’s part of our wider commitment to greener practices, alongside 100% peat-free hydroculture planting, recyclable planters, composting of plant trimmings and refurbishing old containers.

Covering a wide range of sectors

No project is too big or too small. We’ve created plant schemes for academic institutions, shopping centres and large corporations, as well as for businesses that need just four displays in reception. In addition to our office plant work, we also specialise in plant hire for hospitality, education, events & exhibitions, and architects and interior designers.

Over 50 years of experience

Deedman is a family-run business that has been renting interior plants to offices since 1974, and we were one of the first companies in the UK to do so. Over five decades, we’ve stayed at the forefront of the industry, with displays that follow the latest architectural trends and a service commitment that has never changed.

Free design consultation and tailored schemes

Every scheme starts with a free design consultation and site survey. We assess the conditions in your space, such as light and layout, and then design a tailored plant scheme and care service that meets your needs, preferences and budget.

Frequently asked questions

How does office plant hire work?

Our office plant rental service starts with a free design consultation and site survey, where we look at the conditions in your space and recommend the plants and displays that suit it best – these can be living plants, artificial plants or a mix of both. Next, we handle delivery and office plant installation, and wherever possible, displays arrive fully made up so they can be placed quickly, or we build them on site at a time that suits you to minimise disruption. After installation, our highly trained maintenance team visits regularly to keep your plants looking their best.

How much does office plant hire cost?

Office plant rental with Deedman starts from £80 per calendar month. Every scheme is tailored to the individual client, so the cost depends on your space, the plants and containers you choose, and the level of care you need. Call us on 01204 577000, email us at [email protected] or book your free design consultation using our contact form to receive a quote.

What plants are best for my office space?

This depends on the conditions in your space, which is why every scheme starts with a free site survey from our biophilic design experts. We check the conditions on site, including lighting and temperature, and then suggest designs and plants that will stay looking their best and meet your practical needs – whether that’s living plants, replica plants or a statement feature such as a plant wall.

Do I need to water the plants myself?

No, not if you choose our maintenance service. Our trained technicians visit regularly to water your plants, and they also trim and prune them, mist them for the right humidity, feed them, carry out biological pest control, and clean the leaves and containers.

What happens if a plant dies?

Your rental cost covers replacement plants. If a living plant dies through no fault of the maintenance, we’ll automatically replace it with a specimen of equivalent value, and we’ll also replace any plant that outgrows its position. However, our replacement promise doesn’t cover customer damage.

How often are maintenance visits?

Most sites are visited every three to four weeks, although the exact timing depends on the plants and products on site, as well as the heating and lighting conditions. A small number of sites are visited every two weeks.

Some customers expect more frequent visits to be better for their plants, but we time each visit so your plants get enough water while the soil has a chance to dry out in between. This lets the roots take in air and helps prevent root rot. A supervisor also reports on each site regularly to check that our standards are being met.

Do artificial plants need maintenance?

Yes, although they’re much lower-maintenance than living plants. Our replica plant maintenance service includes regular dusting and occasional cleaning and reshaping, so your displays stay looking their best.

Which locations do you cover?

We provide plant displays for offices and commercial spaces throughout the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) – including locations such as Manchester, Leeds, Bolton, Birmingham and London – and our maintenance standards are monitored at every site across the country.

What’s the minimum contract?

We’re flexible on contract length for our office plant hire service. Our shortest option is a one-year rolling contract with a three-month notice period, but most clients choose a three-year contract because spreading the cost over a longer term gives a lower monthly price.

Can I have both living and artificial plants in my office?

We supply both living and replica plants, and our maintenance service covers both. Our team can advise you on which option suits each area of your space, with the potential to use both living and artificial plants on different parts of your site if preferred.

Are your indoor office plants environmentally friendly?

We work hard to reduce our environmental impact and help our clients also meet their ESG goals. As such, we offer 100% peat-free hydroculture planting, use recyclable planters, compost plant trimmings removed from site, refurbish old plant containers, and use biological pest control instead of chemical options. Learn more about our environmental commitments on our About Us page.

Are your pest control methods safe for offices and food areas?

Our biological pest control uses natural predators rather than chemicals, so it doesn’t leave any harmful residues. All of our maintenance staff are trained in these methods, and in over 20 years of use, we’ve never had any issues with our biological pest control. However, please note that we don’t install plants in kitchen areas.
