Economic and Health Benefits:

The move towards more energy efficient buildings has restricted ventilation within them. Thus chemicals, which are released from photocopiers, furniture (new furniture being the worst culprit) etc build up in the enclosed environment. Recent research conducted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has revealed that plants are an extremely effective biotechnical means of combating air pollution in closed spaces, as the plants simply filter the air removing it of harmful chemicals.

Toxic chemicals in the work place has been linked to 'sick building syndrome', causing staff to complain of headaches, stuffy offices and poor ventilation. Therefore plants can help to reduce these symptoms and also provide an economic benefit by helping with savings on sick leave expenses.

Interior living plants are chosen primarily for aesthetic purposes however it is clear that they also provide economic and health benefits. Deedman's thus incorporate environmental assessment into the design concept.
